Steve & Leslie's Wedding (Home)

November 25, 2003   -   Thailand

Hi Everyone!Well if you've made it to this page, you must at least have a slight interest in going to Thailand. Here is some basic info to get you started on making the final decision to head off to South-East Asia. The rest of the site has more details.

First of all, let us say that we don't expect anyone to come (well, except for maybe a few of you :). We only hope you will come if you have the means and time and want to use this as an excuse to take an awesome tropical vacation. We think it will be a really fun time and can't wait for our friends and family to experience Thailand.

LOCATION
We just got back from a trip to Thailand in February to check out the islands. We found a beautiful place that was beyond words for the two of us. The awesome little island of Koh Wai just south of Koh Chang is the place. Stay on either island.

TIME & TIMING
The local time in Bangkok is 15 hours ahead of us here in California. We have scheduled the wedding for Tuesday, November 25 with the approximate itinerary in mind (also see the group itinerary for more details):

  • Depart home Friday evening, arrive in Bangkok Sunday morning, sightsee, travel to Trat.
  • Spend Monday night in Trat.
  • Monday hop over to Koh Wai (or Koh Chang) and spend the afternoon relaxing.
  • Tuesday wedding day.
  • Play in Thailand Wed - Fri.
  • Depart Bangkok Saturday afternoon, arrive home Saturday evening.

COST
The majority of the cost for this trip will be the airfare. Once you're there, things are (or can be) really cheap. Below is the estimated cost of the trip per person, single occupancy based on the planned itinerary. Our 10-day trip in February included one extra island plus plenty of beers and cost us about $750 each. The Thai baht is at about 42 per $1 US. Siam Bank has current rates.

PASSPORT
Don't forget to obtain or renew your passport by travel time! Passport information from the Department of State is available at http://travel.state.gov/passport_services.html. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months. There is no visa required for US passport holders (up to a 30-day stay) and customs is quite simple.

IMMUNIZATIONS
Thailand does not currently require any immunizations to enter the country. There are, however, some CDC recommendations depending on length of stay and activities.
